Iridescent smalti plate

Description

A quarter of a Venetian smalti plate or ‘pizza’. This is how the smalti starts, in a big pizza, the glass is melted in a furnace and brought out to cool on a tray. Made by hand in Venice. The pizza plates are then cut into smaller pieces. This piece is iridescent purple on one side and deep purple on the other, use either side you like!
6 – 7 mm thick. About 500g.
Cut into strips with a glass cutter and the use mosaic nippers or hammer and hardy.
