Grouting with Photoshop

I have been  playing about with Photoshop these past weeks, in between working on my pieces in my shed for the Bird Exhibition. I am using it to edit all 268 photos for my new animation. I also found it useful to help me make a grout decision on one of my pieces. In this mosaic the grout spaces are large which make it even more important to get the colour right. But in the end the decision I made was not just about how it looked but also about the story I am telling.

I will reveal more later, for now here are my Photoshop grout experiments.

I found this last experiment fascinating. By adding “dark strokes” to the blue background, the picture looks like a piece of textile art, almost as if the birds are made of felt.
