Thank you to my customers and supporters this year and all the best for 2013! Here are some of the mosaics I have created this year:
As I was in such a rush to release the news about my book, “Passage to the Sun“, I forgot to tell you a bit about it. I’ve been working on it on and off for a couple of years. I wanted to show my journey, not just how my work has developed since 2005,…
The final mosaic in my journey that makes up a concept album of work is complete. I started this mosaic 3 years ago for a BAMM exhibition “ Music of the Eye”, but I wasn’t able to give enough time to complete it then. And I don’t think the time was right for it anyway….
Some of you will remember reading about a series I am working on called Catching the Sun which is about how we harness the sun’s energy. (I was interrupted by a Swan, a Queen and a “Thing in the Garden”, but have finally caught up with myself. ) So to refresh your memories Part 1…
If you read my last post you will have seen the progress so far on a mosaic I am making called “Solar City” which is part 2 of a series called “Catching the Sun”. I am making the mosaic in the double indirect, or reverse reverse technique for reasons described in the last post. These…
I am working on the second part of the Catching the Sun series (if you missed the first part then have a look at my last post) The series is about harnessing the sun. This time I wanted to illustrate the city harnessing the power of the sun. It is partly present and partly futuristic,…
My sun and tree mosaic is finished. I had to redo the leaves because I originally made them onto glass that I cut slightly bigger than the leaf parts laid onto it. I did this as a way to make the grout line around the leaves quite thick, however it just resulted in looking clumsy….
You won’t believe the trouble I had trying to find suitable gold foil for the underside of my sun! In the previous post I showed you the transparent smalti laid onto some gold foiled tape. I thought this is the stuff I would use, I have a big reel of it, however it is sticky,…
Luckily the weather is a bit warmer this week, encouraging me to get in my shed and get on with the sun mosaic that I wrote about in the last post. I let it slip a bit as the cold was biting into my fingers during the last few weeks, and I wasn’t brave enough…
My new series of three works is now complete. The first piece – “Before the Dawn” is made with matt ceramic and glass tile (the sun is iridescent black glass tile) and gold leaf smalti. The second and third pieces are stained glass. I am off to my framers now so the pieces will be ready…
You know what it is like when someone has seen your work, then you post a photo of it on the web, and they say “the photo doesn’t do your work justice”. You are sure your photo was a good one so it leaves you feeling very good about your work. That’s great, but what…
I sold my forest mosaics soon after the beginning of the Forest Exhibition at the Opus Mosaic Gallery in Exeter, and thought it would be good to make some more. I walk in woods quite often around Somerset and take photos as I go. I chose some photos to work from, made quick 2 minute…
