Spring and Summer Mosaic Workshops

Details of my new workshops are on my website www.rattraymosaics.co.uk/courses

The first of these will be a weekend workshop in May at the Black Swan Arts Centre in Frome, Somerset. The workshop is for beginners or improvers and we will use glass and ceramic mosaic tiles and stained glass. There will be some different tiles too, to add a little interest to your designs! In a previous post I wrote about the Topps Tiles competition, and one of my students won the area award. I was awarded Topps Tiles vouchers. Here is a selection of the tiles I chose.

I call some of these tiles “experimental tiles” because they are thicker than the usual mosaic tiles, but can be used in combination very successfully. I will show students how to cut them and use them in interesting ways.

Following the course at the Black Swan Arts Centre, in June I will be running a 2 or 4 day course at the Ammerdown Centre, Near Radstock, Bath. Again for beginners or improvers, if you come to all 4 days you can make one fairly large piece or two smaller mosaics. On the last 2 days we will concentrate on andamento (the direction the tile is laid to create rhythm), colour, and shape of tile.

Then in July I am running a new course at the Creative Glass Guild in Bristol. A chance to make some stained glass mosaic “gifts”.  A light catcher, a coaster on mirror, and one or two pendants. I will post some examples soon!
