Topps Tiles Competition Winner!

This year (2010-2011) again one of my students has won a Topps Tiles award for Achievement in Mosaic. I submitted several mosaics from the Ammerdown course last year, and Rebecca Leggett won with her wonderful piece “Autumnal Birch”.  Rebecca has won a cheque for £100 and I have won £300 worth of Topps Tiles vouchers,  so I am looking forward to choosing tiles for my future courses. The judge, David Tuhill, who has taught at various art colleges including the Royal College of Art always writes a short but glowing report on each mosaic submitted. This is what he had to say about Rebecca’s mosaic   “You must have given a lot of thought to the colours and positioning of the trunks in this striking design which creates a lovely feeling of depth. Putting in a horizon brings so much more to this scene than simply extending the background. This beautiful –piece of work wins the award, very good work Rebecca”

And to that I would add  “well done, Rebecca, I could gaze at your mosaic all day long!”

Rebecca’s mosaic will go forward for the final judging for the national winner. I wish her all the best with it.

Autumnal Birch by Rebecca Leggett

This seems like a good opportunity to plug my course at Ammerdown this year – there is an opportunity to come for 2 days or 4 days. The second two days will be for those who have a little experience. Beginners can come for the first two days or all 4 days. The dates are from Friday June 24th(evening) – Sunday 26th and from Sunday 26th – Tuesday 28th June. You can be residential or non-residential, whichever way you will still get to eat at Ammerdown which is not to be sniffed at! Lots of veg and lots of pudding! That and lots of mosaic- what more could you want!
