Ammerdown mosaic weekend – food, mosaic, meditation and sticky tape
I had a wonderful time with my 9 students at the Ammerdown centre this weekend. It was hot and sunny and the gardens and grounds were looking beautiful, we had breaks under the dappled shade of a blossoming cherry tree , and kept cool in the workroom. The food was scrumptious as usual – large…

The Midnight Star Lings (The Birds Who Bring Stars) It’s lovely to watch the starlings return this year. They gather on the fields and the farmyards to feed, then fly off together to roost in the reeds down on the levels. If I’m lucky I see a murmuration at sunset when I’m at the Avalon…

This summer I was asked to make a mosaic for a couple’s Golden Wedding Anniversary to place on a tree in their woodland garden. The brief was “something fairly abstract, with a suggestion of plants and flowing water and using reds, oranges, golds and magenta’s, the size to be about 120m x 50cm” It was…
Flying through the Dark into the Light
In 2009 I was taken out of my comfort zone when making a mosaic for the Heavens above exhibition at the Opus Gallery in Exeter. I am used to working with warm bright colours and golds, but I decided to make a night sky mosaic using a lot of black. The swan wasn’t so bad…

Sweat and tears – part 6
I am working on the other side of the sculpture now, so I thought you might like to see the first side so far. The spaces between the tears will be mosaiced using the direct method. I think it is going to look quite glamorous don’t you? …. is sport glamorous? As I already mentioned…

Wow! Hi is such a handsome guy! I love the final video. I had guessed his name to be Zion so was wrong! You must be so proud and sad to have him go.
Thanks Sam – yes sorry to see him go , but at least I have a bit more room in my workshed!
Thank you for dropping by my blog and letting me know about the video. I’ve always admired mosaics, but have never seen one made, so the video was fascinating and fun. As it played, I couldn’t help thinking it was like a great big 3D puzzle and then I noticed the name of the music! I think Zillion is going to have loads of admirers. If you don’t mind I’d like to put a link in my blog to your post with the video on it. Congrats on a fantastic looking Lion.
Thanks Cheryl
